The Capitoline Museums

So I was curious when I saw this on the schedule this morning. I wasn’t sure what this place was or what kind of museum it was.  It is actually a group of museums sitting on Piazza del Campidoglio, on Capitoline hill in Rome. The museums were created in 1471 by Pope Sixtus IV. When the church ordered the destruction of roman statues the one at the center of Piazza del Campidoglio was spared because it is of Constantine who was responsible for making Christianity the state religion of Italy. During lunch at the Museum I had a Fantastic fruit salad and also discovered Italian Fanta. More on Fanta later.

First day

So day one in Rome. We woke up on the plane and had breakfast before the descent. We. Met up with Jeremy and he helped us get a cab. Since there were so many in my group we went and got a mini bus. What a mistake. Our driver was crazy, not that everyone else was sane. Apparently in Rome the lines on the road are just guidleines. He then took us and dropped us off at the wrong place and complained we did not tip him. (Tipping in Italy isn’t common) We had to walk 2 blocks with all of our luggage. What a mess. After checking in we were introduced to our apartments, which are very different from American ones. For starter the toilets looked really weird and they don’t have water in the bowel until u flush them. To turn on the stove you have to first turn the gas on the light it with a lighter. After setting in and having nap time (ugg jet lag) we went to the welcome dinner, which was fantastic. We had pasta, Pork and tiramisu. After taking a night walk through Piazza Novona we then retired to bed whew what a day.

On the plane

So one of my biggest curiosity's about traveling abroad was and food. I even spent some time researching what people had to say about it. The general consensus was that plane food is horrible. I was surprised when the food on my plane was quite tasty.
The first couple flights I ever took I hated but to my surprise I actually had a lot of fun on the plane.
This was my first overseas flight so I was also curious about what the plane was going to look like. I was surprised at how big it is. The plane ride was actually really fun. Each person had their own touch screen TV, which allowed you to play movies, TV shows and games on it. It also had a gps function that showed the route the plane was fying and were you are. I sat and watched the movies tangled and We bought a Zoo, before proceeding to play Azada on my Ipad. This is a really fun puzzle game.

Its a mall but with airplanes!!!

So while waiting for amber to arrive I’m exploring the Charlotte airport. Man this place is like a fancy mall. Lots of shops and restaurants. Just passed a salon even. Then you turn the corner and bam airplanes. Amber just texted me so time to go.

Sunday May 13

So after a night of being unable to sleep we are loading the car and off to the airport. I would like to point out that I hate flying. My last experience on a plane was not very pleasant. Not only was my flight canceled, I was not informed of this until, are sitting at the terminal for 5 hours waiting. I was then charged 200 dollars to reschedule. Let's just say I'm not flying American this time. On the way to the airport we grab McDonald's. Luggage loaded now off to Charlotte.

Yay u.s airways.
Both planes were on time. What a strange event in the airline business.

What a night of packing! I'm up and around and finally getting ready to go though. You'd think that you'd have everything planned out, but as always, some last minute item appears out of nowhere. Besides some late night shopping and rearranging of my suitcase I think everything should go smoothly. I'm with my fiance and mom, and we're all ready to have one last meal before I hop a jet to Charlotte.

Once in Charlotte I'm internationally bound for Rome through some connecting flights. I've got a buddy for the trip so I should be ok. All I need now is about 10,000 joules of energy to make it through the day and I'm good to go, lol.
